With the 2021 GRAMMY Awards being postponed until later this year, the Yammy Awards took place virtually on Yams Day 2021 (Jan 18).
Yams Day honors A$AP Yams (Steven Rodriguez), co-founder of A$AP Mob. The A$AP collective has boosted well-known rappers such as A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg and Playboi Carti. Held annually, the event happened Jan 18, the date of Rodriguez’s death in 2015 at age 26. While the event usually happens in person, Yams Day premiered virtually this year due to the pandemic.

The virtual event began with an address from A$AP Yams mother. Yams Day also included an hour-long documentary about Yams, with music previews from Rocky, and the Yammy award presentations. In addition to the tributes, a few nominations were revealed prior to the event. These nominations include the Ladies Award, the Yamborghini High award, and others. Most of the categories were announced, crowning some of this year’s top stars in the industry, as well as a lesser-known talent that’s on the come up.

I want to give thanks to my A$AP Family and all of you for supporting us from your homes. To my A$AP Foundation for being there during crucial times, having in mind that our mission is to save lives.”
Everyone watching the award show sat at the edge of their seats once A$AP Rocky began passing out Yammy’s.
The first award given was the Big Awgie Award. The rap-rocker Teezo Touchdown brought home the award, beating Drake, Travis Scott, Baby Keem, and others. Continuing on with The Hella Flows category, Young Thug received the hardware over DaBaby, Polo G, and Gunna. Lil Durk was also awarded the New Level category. Lastly, the highly-competitive Yamborghini High prize went to Lil Baby. A$AP Rocky blessed each winner with a tweet shout out of their own, offering his official “CONGRAT$.”
