Pharrell Williams is Set to Narrate Dr. Seuss’ ‘The Grinch’

Pharrell Williams, whose Oscar-nominated single, “Happy” helped transform Despicable Me 2into a beast hit in 2013, has rejoined with Illumination and Universal Pictures. Williams has joined the crew to narrate The Grinch. Grammy candidate Tyler, the Creator has composed a unique melody — “I Am The Grinch” — and will perform it for the film. Oscar-nominated writer Danny Elfman has composed the film’s score, and Tyler, the Creator and Elfman worked together on a reconsidered rendition of the exemplary Grinch theme, “You’re A Mean One.”

The Grammy-winning multi-hyphenate previously composed the score and original songs for all three Despicable Me installments and has been essential in Illumination earning three of the eight best grossing movies ever, with Illumination’s movies earning more than $5.8 billion worldwide in the organization’s 11-year run.

Benedict Cumberbatch voices the The Grinch, with Rashida Jones, SNL’s Keenan Thompson, Cameron Seely and Angela Lansbury giving the other primary voices, with Lansbury voicing The Mayor of Whoville.

The movie is coordinated by Scott Mosier and Yarrow Cheney, adjusted from Dr. Seuss’ book by Michael LeSieur and Tommy Swerdlow. Creating are Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy, with Latifa Ouaou, Audrey Geisel and Chris Renaud the official makers. This is the third adjustment of Geisel’s work for Meledandri — The Lorax and Horton Hears A Who are the others — and it comes 18 years after Universal discharged the real life Grinch with Jim Carrey in the featuring job.

The film is slate to be released on November 9th.
