Pharrell Reportedly Cleared From His ‘Blurred Lines’ Perjury Lawsuit

Pharrell Williams Reveals His Cousin Was Killed By Police in Virginia Beach Shooting

Pharrell Williams has been cleared of his perjury lawsuit from ‘Blurred Lines.’ Pharrell can finally relax after the lawsuit spanned over six years.

Since 2015, Pharell Williams has been involved in a lawsuit with Marvin Gaye’s estate for allegedly committing perjury.

According to PEOPLE magazine, the six-year case is finally coming to a close.

Sparking the lawsuit was Gaye’s family claiming that Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke stole Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got to Give It Up.” Additionally, both artists used Gaye’s song for their 2013 single “Blurred Lines” featuring T.I. Due to this, Gaye’s estate ordered the two to give up a one-time payment of $5.3 million. They also demanded half of the royalties from the song.

To back their claims, the lawyer of Gaye’s estate chose to cite an interview from GQ with Williams. During this interview, Pharrell had reportedly stated that he “reversed engineered” this song. However, in the deposition, Pharrel Williams denied this.  Williams reportedly states that he, “did not go in the studio with the intention of making anything feel like, or to sound like, Marvin Gaye.”

Now, judges have ruled Williams didn’t commit perjury on Friday (February 12). Furthermore, the judge on the case has clarified that the GQ interview was “cryptic and amenable to multiple interpretations.” According to the court, Pharrell Williams’ statement about ‘reverse-engineering’ could be interpreted as a process.
