Chilee… When someone said that the devil works hard, but Fashion Nova works harder, this is what they meant.

Today (March 17) is the day many Americans saw their $1400 stimulus check deposit. After a long-drawn-out fight, it was a relief (no pun intended) to see that another check was passed. For a lot of people, the check is much needed to tackle their stacking bills due to unemployment; or even buy food for that matter.

Nonetheless, one brand saw the third round of relief as a marketing opportunity.

It didn’t take long for the fast-fashion brand, Fashion Nova, to send out a promo text to their customer list. Additionally, the text broadcasts a sitewide discount of 80%. What’s the problem with the text everyone’s talking about on Twitter? The fashion retailer uses AAVE to advocate people using their check to spend at their online store.

“It’s The STIMMY FOR ME 🤑💸,” the text reads. “Make That $1400 Stretch! Raising hands.”

Coincidentally, Twitter was able to clock that someone already predicted this would be Fashion Nova’s next move. Prior to their marketing tactic, Twitter user brattzlife joked about the possibility. Literally, word for word on March 11.

Since the text, Black Twitter blew the event up. One user even touches on the OG tweet predicting this.

With all jokes aside, this isn’t the first time Fashion Nova has been under fire for profiting off of black culture; especially black women. Their “stimmy” promo sale is bold, and it definitely sparked some discourse. One YouTuber, I Am Eloho, took the chance to further explain why Fashion Nova’s “Stimmy” sale is problematic. During the video, she goes over the problem with the promo, the brand’s history of cultural exploitation, and more.

Check it out down below. Also, what do you guys think about the retailer’s promo?
