The Democratic Party Wins Control of the US Senate

Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock Joe Biden bumping elbows

In addition to Bidens win in the election, the Democratic party also wins control of the US Senate!

In the Georgia Senate runoffs, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock made a narrow win. They both defeated Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who were both seeking reelection.  The win of Warnock is actually a notable one. After his win, pro-NBA player Lebron James made tweets about owning the Atlanta WBNA Dream team.

The Georgia senate elections was a tight one. Moreover, the Georgia run-offs victory caused a 50-50 split in the house. In addition, this is the 4th time in history this happened! In other words, Democrats will take control of the upper chamber with VP-elect Harris as the tie-breaker.

Fun Facts About the Georgia Win

Democrats Jon Ossoff, 33-years old, is now the youngest senator to be elected. This beats the 30-year-old elected Joe Biden who defeated Senator J. Caleb Boggs in Delaware in the early 1970s.

Also, Warnock is the first Georgia Democrat elected to the Senate in 20 years! Reverend Warnock made history as well! Warnock is now the first Black US senator from Georgia.

Joe Biden also tweeted about congratulating the two senators. It’s definitely a proud moment.

I called Reverend Warnock and Jon Ossoff this morning to congratulate them on their hard-fought campaigns. Georgia voters delivered a resounding message yesterday: they want action on the crises we face and they want it right now. Together, we’ll get it done.
